Can you scan a QR code already on your screen?
Yes. The ScreenCode extension lets you drag a box around a QR code or barcode visible in the current browser tab. It reads the selected pixels locally and shows you what the code contains before opening, copying, or downloading anything.

Your screen never becomes our business.
ScreenCode freezes the visible tab before showing the selection tool, then displays that frozen image inside a private closed interface. The background copy of the full visible-tab capture is deleted as soon as the review page retrieves it, or within 60 seconds if the scan is abandoned. The selector and reader clear their images after use, and the crop is cleared after decoding. Screenshots, decoded values, and sensitive fields are never uploaded, logged, or saved.

Can a browser extension scan a QR code already on my screen?
Yes. ScreenCode lets you draw a rectangle around a QR code or barcode visible in the active browser tab. It captures that selected area, reads it locally, and presents a review screen before any action is taken.
Which browsers support the ScreenCode extension?
ScreenCode is available now from the Chrome Web Store and Firefox Browser Add-ons. Extensions for Microsoft Edge and Safari on macOS have been submitted to their respective browser stores and will be linked here after approval.
Does ScreenCode upload screenshots or decoded QR code data?
No. The visible-tab capture, selected pixels, decoded value, and payload classification remain on your device. ScreenCode does not upload or store extension scans.
Can ScreenCode read 2FA, passkey, contact, and Wi-Fi QR codes?
Yes. ScreenCode recognizes authenticator setup codes, passkey requests, vCards, Wi-Fi credentials, calendar events, websites, email and phone actions, payments, product barcodes, and plain text. Sensitive values stay concealed until you choose what to do.
Does the Safari extension work on iPhone or iPad?
The first Safari extension release is for macOS. On iPhone and iPad, use the ScreenCode website to scan a screenshot or saved image locally in the browser.
